Are Testosterone level and Obesity related?
Studies done have linked obesity wit hormonal imbalance in men. This was brought to light when diabetes and hormonal imbalance were related and later diabetes and obesity was also related. Studies have shown that men with low testosterone have decreased level of basic metabolic rate (BMR). The function of testosterones in men is not just limited to sexually activities but also keeps the heart healthy, helps in normal growth of hair and aids fat metabolism.
The below mentioned observations have supported the fact that testosterone level and obesity are related.
The fact that obese men have low level of testosterone making them sexually dysfunctional, just adds to this belief. Most of these men have balanced testosterone levels post a weight loss and also show increased performance in bed. Men who are put on hormonal therapy along with exercises show faster weight loss as the extra testosterones boost their basis metabolic rate.
Various studies have also proven that insufficient testosterone makes a person fat by decreasing their muscle mass and increasing excess body fat.
Similarly in cancer patients, the oncologists inhibit testosterone production so as to slow down the progress of cancer but in turn, it is observed that the patients suddenly put on excess weight.
Studies have also related testosterones with abdominal fat. Scientifically it is easy to put on weight around the abdominal region, as it is an area that is not supported by a bone except for the spine. When the testosterone level falls, there is an increase in deposition of adipose tissue around the stomach resulting in a paunch. In turn, the presence of a belly suppresses the release of testosterones which makes is hard to loose weight, build muscles and take control of the body. At the same time, loosing belly fat helps to bring the level of testosterone close to a normal range.
